How to change the headlight - headlamp - turnsignal bulb on a 1999-2003 Ford Windstar?

For model years 1999-2003, and most likely the entire Freestar / Monterey line too: The entire headlamp actually sits inside of a mounting bracket - this means it is very easy to fully release, and remove the headlamp to make bulb replacement much less *painful*! There are 2 headlight retainer clips to find - they are: 1) black, upside-down L-shaped metal clips about 1/2 inch wide 2) located just behind the top edge of the headlamp glass, inside the engine compartment. Release and pull the clips upward. The headlamp assembly will now pull forward providing great access to the electrical connector and bulb retainer ring. Picking up the *removal* instructions from the manual: * 3. Pull headlamp assembly forward disengaging the lamp from the rear retainer to expose the back of the bulb.

* 4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling rearward.

* 5. Remove the bulb retaining ring by rotating it counterclockwise (when viewed from the rear) to free it from the bulb socket, and slide the ring off the plastic base. Keep the ring to retain the new bulb.

* 6. Without turning, remove the old bulb from its socket by gently pulling it straight back out of the lamp assembly. (You may have to wiggle it side-to-side a little while pulling rearward.) Installing the new bulb: NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS OF THE NEW BULB! The oil from your hand could cause the bulb to break the next time the headlamps are operated. # With the flat side of the new bulb's plastic base facing upward, insert the glass end of the bulb into the lamp assembly. Turn (rotate) the bulb left or right to align the grooves in the plastic base with the tabs in the lamp assembly. When the grooves are aligned, push the bulb into the lamp assembly until the plastic base contacts the rear of the lamp assembly.

# Install the bulb retain ring over the plastic base until contacts the rear of the socket by rotating clockwise until you feel a "stop."

# Connect the electrical connector into the rear of the plastic base unti it snaps, locking it into position.

# Install the headlamp on the vehicle by aligning the lamp with the rear retainer, push rearward and secure with two retainer pins.

# Turn the headlamps on and make sure they work properly. If the headlamp was correctly aligned before you changed the bulb, you should NOT need to align it again. With the cable unplugged, look at the back of the bulb assembly. You will see a small ring with three raised "ears". Rotate this counterclockwise about 120 degrees, and the 3 small square tabs under the ring can slip through the ring itself. Remove the ring. The bulb assembly is now exposed. Pull it straight back (away from you) to remove it. It has a rubber ring on the new bulb to seal the entire assembly from water. Do NOT remove the large rubber ring that goes around the retainer ring that you removed in the previous step. With the old bulb assembly removed, open the package for the new bulb. CAUTION: Do NOT touch the bulb itself. Fingertip oil, even very slight, can cause the bulb to fail very quickly. Holding the new bulb by the base, you will see 3 small detents (two of them rather close together, and the other on the opposite side of the base). Line these up with the corresponding marks on the headlight bezel assembly, and then push the bulb assembly gently into place. Once inserted, take the ring from the step above, slide it over the back of the bulb assembly and ensuring that the 3 square black tabs go through the square holes in the ring. Then, twist the ring clockwise about 120 degrees, using the "ears", until the ring is fully engaged. Check that you the square tabs are on the outside of the ring (it's easy to miss one, so that only two of the tabs are engaged - this can result in the bulb being loose). Just changed one on mine. Its easy. Under the hood there is a locking ring of sorts holding the lamp in place. Just grab two of the three knobs on this ring and give it a quarter turn. The locking ring pops off and the lamp assembly can be removed. Lift the plastic tab on the lamp holder and pull off the lamp socket. Reinstall in oposite order. Be sure not to touch the glass portion of the new lamp with your fingers -- wear gloves. The oil from your skin will shorten the lamp life if you do. It is possible to release the headlamp so it pulls out, making access to the connector (described above) much easier: NOTE: This procedure is detailed & illustrated in the Owner's Manual that came with the car, approximately page 246. Release by pulling the top towards you while pulling the clips upward. The headlamp assembly will now pull forward providing great access to the electrical connector and bulb retainer ring.

Once you've pulled the entire headlight assembly outwards toward yourself, there is a small clip molded into the plug that has to clear the corresponding tab on the bulb assembly itself. You can pull it up SLIGHTLY while you pull the connector straight back (away from you) to remove the cable. Do not break the plastic clip - you only need to raise it about 1/16th inch to clear the tab.

Exhaust system. they look like a muffler.

Depends on what year you have. 1996-2001 are exact match with the Ford F150/250 under 8500 GVW. 2001 thru 2003 are unique to that vehicle. Post 2003 they changed again to a spin-form design and that design is good thru 2008. All have R/H - L/H cats. They bolt to the manifold and are married together at the R/H crossover pipe. I think the 2001 and later use a Torca clamp vs a U clamp so the crossover pipe connection is not ruined. 2001 and later have a 900 cell per inch catalyst light off can (#1) and can plug if you backfire with rich condition. Any oil additive like STP containing Zinc can plug your cat too. Stay away from all oil additives and spend the money on a quality synthetic or semi synthetic oil. Look up your model at Tasca auto parts.com. They have a wonderful database with many "view illustration"option. They have the best prices for OEM parts and a great staff that will answer your questions via e-mail or on the phone. Good luck. One last thing...do not try to run your vehicle without the cats. It will turn into one big mess and put your vehicle in "survival mode" You will be lucky to get 7 mpg.

How remove lower radiator hose 2001 Navigator?

Radiator Removal & Installation All gasoline-engine equipped trucks use a cross-flow radiator. In this type, the coolant flows horizontally from a radiator inlet tank to a radiator outlet tank. # Remove the retaining clips for the radiator support brace trim cover and remove the trim panel from the vehicle. # Remove the fan shroud-to-radiator retaining bolts. # Place the special fan removal tools over the water pump pulley bolts and onto the fan clutch hub and loosen the fan clutch assembly. # Remove the fan clutch from the water pump and remove the fan clutch and the shroud assembly from the vehicle. # Slide the hose clamp back and remove the upper and lower hoses from the radiator. # Remove the recovery tank hose from the radiator. # Using a back-up wrench to support the radiator fitting, loosen the transmission cooler lines from the radiator and plug the lines to prevent contamination from entering the transmission. # The radiator is retained by two upper support mounts. # Remove the radiator upper support mounts bolts and remove the support mount brackets from the radiator. # Remove the radiator by lifting it straight out of the engine compartment The installation is the reverse of the removal.

Does the Service Engine Soon light indicate major problems?

Service Engine Soon LightThe Service Engine Soon light and the Check Engine light are not the same! The Check Engine Lamp is an indication that a malfunction has occurred somewhere in your system's EVAP, MAP, MAF, PCM/ECU, TCM.... etc. Usually, these problems require that a service facility properly diagnose the problem... and then make appropriate repairs. The Service Engine Soon Lamp is different, but can sometimes be set by a surge or glitch in the Body Control Module (BCM) or the Transmission Control Module (TCM). It can even be set as a "ghost" code when other codes--such as a p0335/p0725 setting simultaneously --are present. However, this lamplight almost always (and only) illuminates when service-- such as routine transmission oil/filter and motor oil change-- is required. Therefore, the Service Engine Soon light is not to be worried about. However, there are techniques/sequences necessary to turn this light off... and those sequences vary as greatly as there are makes and models of cars. Sometimes it requires something as simple as depressing the odometer reset button for 10 seconds.

I hope this clarified the other misinformation which is currently published and posted on the net (regarding this subject).

:

Okay, pay attention please, you need to disregard that entire answer that obviously the person who wrote it made there own assesment, not according to the facts. Service engine soon is Nissan's and other manufacturers check engine light, yes they are the same. The light means your vehicle needs an engine diagnosis to pinpoint one or multiple problems. These codes appear because the emmissions, ignition and overall performance of the motor is compromised. The problem could be a run down sensor, vacuum leak or ignition(timing) problem. The code will get you looking at the right system on the vehicle but not always the exact problem. Good to pay engine Dio if unsure.

Can you put a 8 cylinder engine in a truck that had a 6-cylinder engine?

In theory, yes. The engine will power the truck perfectly well.

However, engines have mount points, places where the engine is secured to the truck. Most likely, the 8-cyl will not fit the mounts where the 6-cyl once was; it's just a bigger engine. You could get very lucky and have them match, but it's not likely. Your best bet is another 6-cylinder engine from another nearly identical car (i.e., the year is only different by one or two). Websites exist that will tell you the engine number and which ones are compatible with each other. It is also possible to buy adapters to bolt a suspension from a Ford onto a Chevy frame and engine, but that doesn't sound like what you're asking.

How do you change front disc brakes on a Ford Windstar?

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Front

1. Remove the brake master cylinder reservoir cap. Siphon and recycle approximately half the fluid from the reservoir.

2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.

3. Remove the wheels.

4. Remove the disc brake caliper guide pins.Torx bolt 40 or 45 (can't remember which)

It is not necessary to disconnect the hydraulic lines.

5. Lift the disc brake caliper from the anchor plate.

6. Position the disc brake caliper out of the way by suspending with a wire.

7. Remove the brake pads from the anchor plate.

To install:

8. Inspect the rotor surfaces for scoring or buildup of lining material. Minor imperfections do not require machining. Hand sand the glaze from the rotor using 150 grit aluminum oxide sand paper.

9. Use a C-clamp and wooden block to seat the disc brake caliper hydraulic piston in its bore, as illustrated. This must be done to provide clearance for the disc brake caliper to fit over the front rotor during installation.

10. Remove all built-up rust from the inside of the brake caliper pad contact area.

11. Install the brake pads, with the clip on insulators, into the front brake caliper anchor plate.

12. Install the disc brake caliper onto the anchor plate.

13. Install the disc brake caliper guide pins and tighten to 23-38 ft. lbs. (31-38 Nm).

Failure to tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque in a star pattern may result in damage to the brake rotor.

14. Install the wheel and tighten lug nuts to 83-112 ft. lbs. (113-153 Nm).

15. Lower the vehicle.

16. Pump the brake pedal to seat the brake pads.

Answer to replacing front brake padsThe unspoken crime of the automotive industry is the ease at replacing brake pads. Each year, people spend millions of dollars paying for a service that they can easily do by themselves. It is as easy as changing your oil. It is very easy to change the front disc brakes on a Ford Windstar '03. I have an 03 Limited. First, remove the wheel. Then, loosen the bottom bolt that holds the caliper in place. Swing the caliper up! Next, remove the brake pads by pulling them from the disc. Then, use a caliper tool to reset it. Next, spread the break pad lubricant on the brake pad and the caliper; this will lessen/eliminate noise when the brakes are applied. Lower the caliper onto the new brake pads - the most difficult part in my opinion - and secure the bolt. YOU ARE DONE! It's a good idea to secure your new brake pads by making short stops and pushing the brake pedal down as far as it will go. You've just saved yourself at least $100 bucks!

The front rotors have four to five Allen headed retaining bolts near the center of the hub(around the hub). These have to be carefully removed as to not damage or strip the heads. I suggest spraying with some liquid wrench before attempting to unscrew. Remember, right to tight, left to loose.

Why would a truck blow oil but run great at high speeds?

If you mean engine oil then this is because the crank mechanism in the engine need to be lubricated for efficient firing of the piston in the cylinder, there by increasing the speed of the truck and also durability of the engine. == correct answer== if engine is blowing oil,but still running fine, you more than likely have bad valve stem seals this allows oil to run down valves into combustion chamber fix it before you burn out ya valves

Modification of Old Electrical Work

How do you replace a light switch?

After you obtain a matching type of switch (there are three major types, see below):

  1. Safety: Understand that we all make mistakes or that a new switch may be defective, and be careful. In some circumstances, a mistake or defect can cause an electrical hazard or a fire inside the walls. Check if your fire insurance will cover work done without a license. Check if you need a local permit to do electrical work. Never do electrical work alone.
  2. Turn off the electrical current for that light circuit at the breaker/fuse box. If in doubt, turn off the whole house. Someone may have moved things since the labels were last updated.
  3. Remove the face cover by taking out the screw or screws. Unscrew the top and bottom screws holding the switch.
  4. Pull the old light switch out of the safety box far enough to see the wiring terminals. Verify you have the right type of switch for the replacement (same number of wire terminals).
  5. Use a voltage tester to make sure there is no voltage between any of the wires (and ground, if there is one). Be careful of wires going to other switches in the same box; they may be on a different circuit breaker. To be safe, turn off those circuits too.
  6. Loosen the terminal screws with a screwdriver. If they use spring terminals instead, use a sharp object to press the release hole and then pull out each wire.
  7. Place the new switch next to the old one and move each wire to the same position on the new one. Wrap wires around screws clockwise and tighten each terminal. Note: if one terminal is marked COM on a 3-way, make sure that wire goes to COM on the new 3-way switch. The other two hot wires can go either way.
  8. Replace the new switch into the box, replace the cover, turn on the power. Pay attention if the breaker pops or the fuse blows at this point. If so, you made a mistake. Leave the circuit off, call qualified help.
  9. If power is still on, try the switch. If it is a three-way or four-way circuit, try all combinations from each location to make sure they all work.
  10. If there are sparks or the power goes off again, or the light doesn't work, you made a mistake. Make sure the power is off again, then call someone more qualified to help figure out the problem. Watch for several minutes in case there is smoke or other indications of a bigger problem.

One person wrote: "I am not an electrican---Make a diagram of the wiring. Replace 1 wire at a time. Black (hot)wires go to the brass screws. White wires (neutral) goes to the silver screws. Incoming hot is usually coming up from the bottom. Out going to the fixture is on top." Because installations may vary randomly on which wire goes where, and whether power is top or bottom, it might be better to have a qualified person assist in this task.

Black to brass, white to silver screws holds true for receptacles but not for switches. Switches have two brass screws and can have two black wires on them or a black and a white or even a red wire.

There should not be any "white" wires at a switch. If there are (e.g., because a cable was used), they must have colored tape (not green) wrapped around them to indicate they are NOT neutral. No neutral wires should ever be switched. If there are any wires connected together (e.g., two or more white wires), leave them connected to each other. If there is a bare (or green) grounding wire, make sure it also gets connected the same way it was on the old switch.

You also need to make sure you use the same type of switch as the old one. There are "normal" single-pole, single-throw (SPST) light switches (two screw terminals, plus ground); "three-way" single-pole, double-throw (SPDT, three terminals, plus ground); and "four-way" double-pole, double-throw (DPDT, four terminals, plus ground). The switch may also be of a special type, such as "dimmer" or "lighted", or a special decorator shape that will affect whether you get the same cover back onto it.

Why coolant leaks in rear of Ford Expedition?

Because of the dual zone a/c-heating system, instead of using rubber ford chose to use steal or aluminum tubing from the front to the back.

More than likely the tubes have made contact with metal and with normal driving conditions have rubbed a hole in the tube. maybe just a leaky connection to the heating core or worse a heating core with a hole in it.

Plus i don't know if it is true or not but using two different kinds of antifreeze can compromise the entire cooling system (heating system too).

Why do snooze buttons only work for 9 minutes?

The 9-minute snooze is a product of mechanical clock engineering and digital clocks have followed suit since.

Mechanical clock engineers had to configure clock gears to work with the clock's other gears. They had two choices - to set the snooze for either a little more than nine minutes, or a little more than 10 minutes. Clock makers decided on the 9-minute gear, believing 10+ minutes would be too long and allow someone to fall into a deep sleep.

Clock manufacturers today have the option to set snooze buttons at any length but it is most stick with the 9-minute custom.

How do you replace front coil spring ford escort 98?

To replace the strut you have to jack up the car on the side you want to do and take off the wheel. Then, take it loose from the strut tower on the top. There are 3 or 4 nuts. Then take it loose from the steering knuckle on the bottom. The whole strut assembly lifts out. To replace the coil you have to have a strut compressor. It compresses the coil spring so the top of the strut can come off. Once the top of the strut is exposed the coil can be taken off the strut.

How do you change the headlamps on a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT?

There are clips on the assembly that you have to release, which pull up. The whole light assembly then can be pulled from the front. DO NOT touch the glass portion of the replacement bulb as the oils from your fingers will make the bulb overheat and blow on use. Remove the old bulb, put in the new bulb and replace the assembly (take your time to make sure it lines up straight). Then replace the clips and you're good to go. I know this because I tried to figure it out myself and ended up having a service guy walk me through it so I would know when I had to do it again.

***CAUTION***

The halogen bulb contains gas under pressure. The bulb may shatter if the gas envelope is scratched or if the bulb is dropped. Handle the bulb carefully. Grasp the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass envelope.

è The headlamp bulb should not be removed from the headlamp until just before a replacement bulb is installed. Removing the bulb for an extended period of time may affect headlamp bulb performance. Contaminants may enter the headlamp where they can settle on the lens and reflector. Never turn on the headlamps with the bulb removed from the headlamp.

Where do you put the oil in a compressor?

In the reciprocating compressors, you fill the crank case with the lubricante.

In screw compressors, there is a reservoir to separate oil from compressed air, that reservoir works as the oil sump of the screw compressor.

in big centrifugal compressor oil is placed in an oil tank, and than is pumped to bearing casings by means of mechanical or electrical pump.
