the hardest part is getting to the latch. You maybe able to get to it by reaching up behind the bumper or wedge a screwdriver between the hood and the top of the grille. The grille has 2 plastic tabs on top of the grille that hold it in. There are also 2 tabs on the bottom of the grille. Use the screwdriver to depress the top tabs to release the grille. Remove grille. Use your hand to follow hood latch cable to find the latch. Pull the lever attached to the cable to your right. This should release the main locking latch.

You can use mesh for a front grill-- but it will likely not look very nice. Better idea might be a wrecking yard-- look for a grille with one tiny crack in it-- they cannot sell this as a perfect used part, and the one with a tiny crack will be dirt-cheap. Try to get as many of the little clips they use to attach the plastic grille to the car as you can, and don't cuss too much when installing the grille.

Assuming you mean a 2003 Taurus, yes Actually while the bumpers between 2004 and 2003 taurus will bolt up correctly the two years use a different grille. You'll have a gap between the bottom of the smaller 2003 grille and larger grille opening on the 2004 bumper. Putting a 2003 bumper on a 2004 the 2004 grille is too big. you can shoehorn it in there or replace it with a 2003 grille.

How do you replace the hood release cable you can not get under the hood..Help?
There is a single Phillips head screw in the centre top of the grille, remove it. There are 4 snap in clips, two at each end of the grille near the headligts. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to push the prongs of the clips up. As you are pushing the prongs up lightly pull the grille towards you, working one end of the grille then the other. This should release the front grille so you can un-latch the hood, so you can replace the cable. Cheers Malcolm
