No, not unless there is a 115-volt power inverter to convert the 12 VDC to AC at the higher voltage. There are inexpensive inverters available to plug into a cigarette lighter outlet in a 12V vehicle system, but only for up to about 150 watts.

You should be aware that there is no such thing as a 'DC transformer'. What you are probably referring to is a DC power supply. The answer is no, you cannot use a 9V DC power supply to drive a 3V DC motor, as its voltage exceeds the rated voltage of the motor by a factor of 3, and the motor will likely burn out.

Yes, but the motor will not run as fast and have the torque that the motor would at 12 volts.

Can you use a DC 7.2V 400mA transformer to power a small motor?

First, there are no DC transformers, transformers work on AC. If you have an AC/DC wall converter that has an output of 7.2 v DC, and a max current load of 400mA, then you can use this to power a DC motor that requires less than (7.2 x .4 = ) 2.88 watts of energy.

Can you use dc motor to power hydro turbine?

no you can't use dc motor to power hydro turbine ?

How do you start a motor without a starter?

By the use of auto transformer and bridge rectifier we can start dc motor.

What does filter do in a transformer?

A transformer does not use a filter. You may be asking about the use of a filter in a power supply. A power supply uses a filter to change pulsating DC from the rectifier into smooth DC for the circuits that the power supply powers.

Which device you use to increase voltage from 220V to 11000V?

If it is AC, a transformer. If it is DC, a motor generator.

How do you start a DC motor if there is no 3 point starter?

By the use of auto transformer and bridge rectifier we can start dc motor.

Will using a transformer to convert 230V to 12V DC consume more energy than using a few capacitors and resistors without a transformer?

no, the transformer is much more efficient <><><> HOWEVER- a transformer only changes the voltage of AC current- it does not change it to DC. You will still need diodes or rectifiers. You can also use a motor/generator- a 230v AC motor turns a 12 v DC generator.

What is the mechanism of converting DC current in to AC current?

There are two primary methods: Number one, use a DC motor to drive an AC generator. Number two use an inverter, which uses integrated circuits, power transistors and a transformer to generate AC currrent.

How do you calculate amount of copper used in a motor AC or DC and generator and transformer Datasheets do provide power rating and mass of the equipment can we somehow use this available info?

One thing you could do is look up the datasheet for the motor and/or contact the manufacturer of the motor. Also, if you know the guage of wire, you can calculate it based on the resistance of the coils on the motor/generator or on the coils of the transformer

Why dc series motors cannot be used in home?

DC series motors run on DC power. Homes have AC power, not DC power. You could use DC motors in homes if you have a power supply or use a battery, but it is usually more cost effective to use an AC motor.

Can a transformer work using dc?

no. because if we use dc source for transformer there will be no production of energy for the secondary side since they are mutually conducted, as the transformer is a static device which can transmite the energy from one circuit to other with out changing the frequency and also there is no movement of the conductors. in order to produce the emf there should be either conductor movement or moving flux so the dc source will produce constant field flux hence there is no production of energy in the secondary side.

Can you step up or step down the DC voltage by a transformer?

You need alternating current for a transformer, for DC you would have to interrupt the power supply to make it effectively DC pulses.
