Ohms is a measure of resistance. When the electricity passes into the speaker, some of it is 'resisted.' The ohms rating of the speaker is how much is resisted, and an indication of how much energy it takes to drive it - the higher the ohms rating, the more difficult it is to drive.

Yes, you can if they are on different outputs. The 8 ohm one will probably sound a bit quieter.

Is a 4 ohm subwoofer better then a 8 ohm subwoofer?

You need to match the speaker with the amplifier. Better or worse is not the question. The question is dynamic range and the possibility of overloading the amplifier. If the amplifier is rated 4 ohms, use a 4 ohm speaker. Same for 8 ohms. Do not "mix and match".

How do you connect a 2 ohm amplifier to a 4 ohm speaker?

Yes you can. 2 ohms is as low as you can go with that amp MOST car subs have 4 ohm voice coils. The bigger the number, the less low bass frequency run two single voice coils subs and you'll be fine. It's a myth. There is really no 2 Ohm amplifier on the market. And there never was. The amplifier will have an output impedance of around 0.04 ohms. In hi-fi we have always impedance bridging. Zout << Zin. That means the output impedance of the amplifier is much less than the input impedance of the loud speaker. The damping factor Df = Zin / Zout tells you what Zout is. Zout = Zin/Df. If the damping factor Df = 200 and the loudspeaker impedance is Zin = 4 ohms, the output impedance of the amplifier is Zout = 4 / 200 = 0.02 ohms. You see, there is no "2 ohm amplifier" on the market with a 2 ohm output impedance. Scroll down to related links and look at "Voltage Bridging or impedance bridging - Zout < Zin".

How do you connect 4 ohm speaker to 16 output amplifier?

No Problem to do this, but there are really no amplifiers with an output impedance of 16 ohms on the market. All loudspeaker amplifiers have an impedance of less than 0.5 ohm. Scroll down to related links and look at "Impedance bridging - Wikipedia".

Will 8 ohm speakers work with a 4 ohm amplifier?

Yes, you can use 2 in series, IE daisy chain them to add up to 8 ohms. For stereo you would need 4 speakers not 2. mono, 2 not one. Most Amplifiers work OK driving to a lower impedance loads anyway so just hook them up. Very high power levels may overheat the amp but at normal volume it should be fine. Something important is added: There are no 8 ohm amplifiers! The amplifier will have an output impedance of around 0.04 ohms. In hi-fi we have always impedance bridging. Zout

Can 4 ohm speakers cause an 8 ohm amp to fail?

Answer #1Yes. 4 ohm speakers, when driven to the same voltage level (same volume control setting), try to draw four times the power (watts) of an 8 ohm speaker. This can overload the amp and cause it to fail. Answer #2It's a myth. There is really no 8 Ohm amplifier on the market. And there never was. The amplifier will have an output impedance of around 0.04 ohms. In hi-fi we have always impedance bridging. Zout

If wired in parallel then 4 ohms.

4 Ohms. Can use any standard 4 Ohm speaker as long as you don't chassis ground it.

Can you convert an 8 ohm speaker into 4 ohms?

Yes It all in how there wired up

What is the resistance of four 8 ohm speakers wired in a series?

Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 4 ohms, and the power will be split between them. However, unless the amplifier is rated for 4 ohm operation, you will not get the same total power out of the amplifer as you would with an 8 ohm load.

What is the different between 2 ohm and 4 ohm?

The difference between 2 ohms and 4 ohms is 2 ohms.

Can you run 4ohm resistor to make 4 ohms speakers 2 ohm?

Yes, you can safely use a 4 ohm amp with one 8 ohm speaker, but you will not achieve full power. The 4 ohm amp is designed to supply a certain voltage into a 4 ohm speaker. Supplying that same voltage to an 8 ohm speaker will result in half the power, or -3dB. For maximum power, use a 4 ohm speaker, or two 8 ohm speakers in parallel.

What ohm load will 4 12 in dual 2 ohm play at?

There are a lot of possibilities here, especially since your question is worded exactly right.I'm taking it you have 4 12" speakers, each of which have Dual Voice Coils (2 Ohms each). You want to wire them together and see what ohm load you have.Ok, there's multiple ways to wire this up. Series, Parallel, and Series/Parallel combo.Wiring these speakers in series can give you either a 4 ohm load, or a 16 ohm load. 4 ohms if each speaker by itself (having DVC) is wired in parallel and 16 ohms if each speaker by itself is wired in series.Wiring these speakers in parallel can give you either a .25 ohm load, or a 1 ohm load. Again .25 ohms if each speaker by itself (having DVC) is wired in parallel and 1 ohms if each speaker by itself is wired in series.Wiring these in a series/parallel configuration can give you tons of different wiring options and ohm loads. In your case .75, 1, 3.2, 4 ohm loads. So your best option would to be wire your speakers up in series, with each speaker wired in parallel to itself. This way you'll get a 4 ohm load, if done properly. Make sure your amp can run a 4 ohm load too.

If an amp runs 1000 w rms at 1ohm how do you wire a dual 4 ohm speaker to run at 1 ohm?

the impedance of a speaker is a characteristic that is has. A 4 ohm speaker will always have a 4 ohm impedance and it cannot be changed. If 2 speakers of 4 ohm impedance are wired in parallel, then the total impedance will be 2 ohms. Similarly, if you wire 4 speakers together, the total impedance will be 1 ohm. Wiring a 2 ohm speaker to an amplifier rated to drive a 1 ohm load should work without any problems but expect the total power output to be somewhat lower than with a 1 ohm load.

8 Ohm plus 8 Ohm equals?

16 Ohms. Yes 16 ohms in series. 4 ohms in parallel

How do you measure speaker impedance?

The real impedance is the resistance in ohms more 20%. A coil resistance of 6,7 ohms X 1.20 = an impedance of 8.04 ohms. If the voice-coil had exactly 8 ohms, the impedance would be 9.6 ohms and the sound would be unclear, tending to more basses.

I have a home theater system i also have two different subwoofers 4ohms and an 8 ohms which one is better?

The impedance of the speaker does not determine its quality. Assuming that your amplifier can drive the 4 ohm speaker, you will notice that this speaker is louder than the 8 ohm one.
