I have never had issue with cooking a casserole in a glass bowl..that would seem to be a personal preference. I would be more likely to shun or questin the use of an aluminum pan or bowl rather than a glass one - but again, that is a personal choice.

Fire King, Anchor Hocking, Corning and Pyrex are a few popular brands of "oven-safe" glass cookware - there are many others. However, use any glass cookware, regardless of brand, with a reasonable amount of caution, and do not expect the same level of service from today's products, that your grandmother got from hers. This is because the glass used in the past 20 - 25 years is not the same as the glass used prior to that time.

Today, most (if not all) glass cookware is made from soda-lime glass, a cheaper version of the borosilicate glass used in the old days. These dishes cannot be placed from the freezer directly into a hot oven - they will shatter. They also cannot be used under the oven broiler element.

It is wise not to subject the dish to sudden thermal shock; even though high and low temperatures are not a problem, it is sudden thermal expansion or contraction that causes shattering.

So:

- Read the warnings on newly purchased dishes (and follow them).

- Cook at lower temperatures.

- Allow the dish to warm up first if taken from the fridge or freezer.

- Allow the dish to cool down first if placing in the freezer or fridge (after oven).

- Allow a cold dish to heat up along with the oven - avoid preheating the oven to a high temperature, then placing the dish in it.

You can use a glass casserole dish for baking as long as the oven temperature is at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

Can you cook brownies in a glass bowl?

No, absolutely not. If you put glass in the oven, it will crack and turn brown. It will ruin the pan, the food, and the oven. NEVER PUT GLASS IN THE OVEN. * * * * * * * * * * I don't know how old this post is, but actually, you CAN use glass such as Pyrex or Corning. I use a gas oven and that's all i use. I no longer have metal pans. Just check the "User Guide" that comes with your dish/pan. If it says it's safe to use in oven, you're fine. ************** It can.
