Yes, a space heater can be plugged into any outlet. Depending on what else is drawing current on the circuit will govern whether the circuit will trip or not. If the heater is plugged in and the circuit does not trip it can be left plugged as long as it is needed. If the heater trips after a few seconds, then try another outlet.

Which slot of an outlet is hot?

The larger of the two is neutral, smaller is hot.

If a 1500W heater tripped the GFCI outlet and took out a few outlets do you need to rewire those outlets if they're still dead?

Did you reset the GFCI? Any outlet attached to the GFCI's load (output) will not work if the GFCI has no power/is inoperable. The water heater could have a neutral-to-ground short, a type of fault which would be not have shown up on a circuit having no GFCI. That would be a good reason to scrap the water heater if it cannot be fixed! Anyway the best advice is to call in an electrician to run a separate circuit for your water heater.Take the water heater off of that circuit! Nothing else should be on that circuit, and call a electrician to run a separate circuit for your water heater!!! 1500watts divided by 120 volts is 12.5 amps.Always be sure to switch off the breakers at the main panel before you attempt to do any work on any mains power circuit.

120V gas Kenmore dryer and the hook up location has the big 240V female receptacle--what is easiest solution thanks?

The easiest solution is to leave the 220V original outlet alone and plug the 110V dryer into a close 110V outlet, most likely the one for the washer. There should be nearby 110V outlets so you don't have to muck with rewiring the 220V outlet. A short heavy-duty extension cord is an option. I would also recommend killing the power to the old dryer outlet if it is unused. It cannot hurt. If you cannot plug the dryer into a nearby 110V outlet you can derate the 220V outlet down to a dedicated 110V outlet. This is not a task to be taken lightly if you are not experienced. If you do take this course of action yourself, buy a book. Do it right or don't do it at all. Negligence could kill someone.

What cause circuit breaker to trip when refrigerator plug in?

If you can plug the fridge into another outlet and it comes on, then the issue is either a bad outlet connection or the circut breaker may be going out and needs replacement. Try the fridge on another outlet 1st. If it trips that one too then there is a short in your fridge.

Is it a good idea to rent a heater for use during a short term job at a fish hatchery?

It may be. You would have to compare the price of purchasing versus the price of a rental for the period of time in question.

What is causing air in the hot water line but not the cold and it started after the hot water heater and vacuum breaker were replaced 3 months ago and has not stopped?

I think the only reasonable answer can be that the cold and hot water inlet/outlets are reversed. your hot water line is attached, at the heater to the cold water inlet or your hot water outlet is too short inside of the tank

On a 1989 buick century sedan 3.3 l You get three speeds on the heater fan when you turn the fan to high there is nothing you already replaced the fan switch any suggestions?

Replace the heater resistor located in the fan housing. Remoe fan for easier access and it is in the left side of the housing. You might want to check for coolant leaks from the heater core that can short out the resistor, especially if the replacement fails after a short period. replace the hi blower fan relay
