The question makes no sense. There is no such thing as a "Marine Second Sergeant" (nor would one be in the Army if such a thing existed), nor does even a "Second Sergeant" rank exist.
Sergeant in the Army and Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant in the Air Force, Petty Officer Second Class in the Navy and Coast Guard.

The U.S. Marine Corps' first sergeant major was Archibald Sommers, appointed on January 1, 1801. This was originally a solitary post, similar to the modern Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, but by 1899 there were five Sergeants Major. The title was abolished in 1946, but re-introduced as a rank in 1954. The post of Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps was established in 1957, as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The first person to hold the newly established Rank of Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps was Wilbur Bestwick, who held the billet from 23 May, 1957 to 1 September, 1959.
The next rank below that is Lieutenant Colonel. Below that is Major. Below that is Captain. Below that is First Lieutenant, and below that is Second Lieutenant. That's the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force.

There are several ranks of sergeants. Buck sergeants (three chevrons) and staff sergeants (three chevrons with one rocker) led squads, usually of about twelve men. A platoon had four squads. There was a platoon sergeant (three chevrons, two rockers), the top enlisted man in a platoon. The platoon commander was supposed to be an officer, a second lieutenant or a first lieutenant. Platoon leaders got killed a lot. Platoon leader was the single most lethal job of the war. When the lieutenant went down the platoon sergeant took over, until a new lieutenant was assigned. So, squad leaders reported to either the platoon sergeant or the platoon commander, and the platoon sergeant reported to the platoon commander, unless he had become the platoon commander. If the platoon sergeant was leading the platoon he met with the captain or the first lieutenant commanding the company, with the other platoon commanders, when officers were called to company HQ to discuss plans or receive orders.
