You must be very careful with ear ache, as it can be a sign of something that needs attention. Check with the doc, and probably not a good idea to put anything in the ear canal. Best just to take an anti-inflammatory like aspirin or ibuprofen to help ease the pain. My mother would put a hot bottle wrapped in a small towel against the side of my head when I had ear ache associated with mumps.
