No, while it is a combustible product, it lacks the volitility of other products. It actually CAN be used, and will light and burn pretty nicely, BUT your cigarettes will taste funny! Someone 'borrowed' some fluid from me, not noticing I had marked the can "WD-40" with a marker. He had to get new cotton and a new wick for his lighter!
oh my no. any heavy petrol material would either not have a low enough of a flash point to burn, or if it does catch, it will burn so hot it would over heat and dissapate down into the fuel chamber casueing a possible flash back when you close it. plus, it will burn the hell out of you when you close it after lighting.
a good option is really any petrol fluid lighter than gasoline. gasoline does work, but its risky. a Zippo runs on naptha. a rather well burning material that has a low reaction to otehr materials or skin. distilled alcohol works so long as its not a mix. burns very very clean, little to no soot. but, doesnt burn very hot once lit.
Yea. But u can say goodbye to your eyebrows, hair, nosehairs or any body hair that it gets caught in.
no use lighter fluid
Butane.
No, it will brutally explode in your face. And you will die.
I usually refill mine about twice a week. This also depends on how big the Zippo is and how often it's used.
Nothing really it all the same stuff they just want you to buy there own brand that's all...... i have a 1988 zippo i have had and i have used generic brands and it is still working fine
the knife and lighter (never used) are in a walnut case
No , fluid replacement must be with a liquid of equal density/viscosity .
When my dad was in the Navy, his friends used to use jet-fighter fuel to refill their Zippos, so I don't see why regular petrol should be any different. Just be very careful if you use petrol - do it outdoors, wipe the lighter after filling and wash your hands before lighting, as petrol is extremely volatile!
usually about 45 psi
no, it can't be used because it is a bit more flammable and is can cause the lighter to explode because of the pressure
A scripto wind resistant kitchen lighter can be refilled. There are lighter fluid containers that can be purchased at gas stations or convenience stores. This can be used to refill the kitchen lighter. Try doing a search at instructables .com on refilling the scripto windresistant light torch
As an experiment, and after alot of time on Wikipedia, I'm in the process of trying this. I tipped a dribble of Coleman Fuel on the bottom of an upturned coffee mug and lit it. It burned beautifully with NO smoke. I tried it with proper Swan lighter fluid and it burned exactly the same but with plenty of smoke. My zippo is currently in bits on a radiator drying out so I can try it with pure Coleman fuel. At £6 for 500ml, it's a bit cheaper and alot more convenient if it works... I'll report back in an hour or two. Just tried it - perfect. Burns exactly like lighter fuel except perhaps even less smoke!
== == Not recommended, as it is kerosene based, and the flash point is too low, and this would make lighting difficult. The regular liquid fluid is 100% Naptha, which can be purchased at hardware stores in pint sized cans, not little 4 oz cans. Another, less expensive option, is to use Coleman camp/stove fuel. It comes in a red/silver steel gallon container and sold in all the big box stores. For fueling a Zippo, a gallon of Coleman fuel will literately last a lifetime. I paid $2.59 for the gallon can that I refill my little 4 oz can from and its still over 1/2 way full. In May of 2008 a gallon probably costs $6. *************************************************************************** This is not recommended! Charcoal fluid is not designed to be used in a cigarette lighter. Since it is designed to be used with a match and charcoal, it does not work well with a Zippo. The flint can be damaged by this procedure as well as harming the entire case. Another hazard is that this use can cause chemical burns to the skin.
