The fuse box sits behind a panel where the steering column and instrument panel meet. It is on the left hand side of the panel. You must remove the screws from this panel to access the fuses. The fuses sit almost parallel to the floor and as such are a bit hard to read unless you climb under the instrument panel. Having the owners manual is a HUGE help as you can locate the fuse in question before climbing under the instrument panel.
Other than perhaps different molding locations, they should be similar
The main fuse is located above the voltage regulator rectifier. The cooling fan has a inline fuse. The remaining four are located between the speedometer and the tachometer under the dash panel.

Didn't make a convertible in 1984. It has Targa roof panel that can be removed with a tool.
the fuses in a pontaic fiero are near the front hood release, it is a black box looking thing that has a button on the front. when you press the button the tray of fuses release and fall down in a near 90 degree angle.
Yes one in the engine and the other behind the panel next to the steering wheel (right hand drive) Last mentioned has all the light fuses
