No. HD motor oil is designed to lubricate engine internal components and in most cases contains detergents that help keep the engine clean.
If it were a manual transmission and you had to add oil in an emergency situation to get to a repair shop, yes HD motor oil could work.
If it is an automatic transmission, NO!!! This would destroy the transmission.

3500 lbs. but you must have the towing package installed. Towing package includes the rear load levelers, heavy duty alternator, heavy duty radiator/automatic transmission cooler, heavy duty turn signal flasher, and an engine oil cooler. I think the heavy duty automatic transmission cooler in located inside the heavy duty radiaotr, check with your GM parts dealer to see if this is the case. -Tony
A Briggs and Stratton 17.5 horsepower engine can use any type of small engine motor oil. A heavy duty motor oil is recommended.
No, oil smokes when it is burnt heavy duty or not.
You can check the motor oil or the transmission fluid.
Transmission oil is a motor oil specifically manufactured for transmissions and differentials in cars. Compared to engine oil it is of a higher viscosity which ensures good transfer and better protects the gears. This heavy oil can create viscous drag and lead to inefficiencies in operation. Some modern automatic transmissions do not use such a heavy oil at all but lubricate with the lower viscosity hydraulic fluid, which is available at pressure within the automatic transmission. Transmission oil is usually associated with a strong sulfur smell.
Usually four or five depending on oil filter. On the heavy duty chassis this could be 7 or 8 quarts
The manual transmission takes gear oil. I prefer the lucas heavy duty 80/90 gear oil... It works great The automatic take MOPAR ATF+4.
The motor oil drain plug is located on the motor oil pan. The Transmission oil drain plug is located on the Transmission oil pan.
Seriously? A 305 Chevy motor does not take "transmission fluid"! The transmission takes transmission fluid, and the motor takes oil. The 305 should hold 5 quarts of oil I believe. As for the transmission, I believe that all depends on what transmission you have. Seriously? A 305 Chevy motor does not take "transmission fluid"! Crankcase or motor oil is thicker than transmission oil. That's one difference, there may be more (other than color)
it shares the same oil as the motor
no...but you can use screaming eagle synthetic oil in both the motor and the transmission which is supposed to be better anyways
