However, simply operating a tractor does NOT give you permission to use it as general transportation.

There's a lot of variables to that question. For instance, how big of a tractor? Is it gas or diesel? And, what is it doing? Plowing would use considerably more fuel than cutting hay, for instance.
In Texas yes, but unless you are using it for farm use you must use highway fuel. You also need to display a reflective triangle on the rear indicating you are moving 35 mph or less.

You can use any oil that is for on-highway diesel use. Rotella, Royal Purple, etc. all have diesel engine oil.
