Buy a bag of poppy seeds at the grocery store. the ones for cooking... they are papaver somniferum: opium poppy. they fertilize the seeds but in a bag of about 2.5 million, one or two usually get past fertilization. just gotta dump em out onto soil. good luck

Which part of the poppy plant is opium obtained?
Opium is not grown, rather the opium poppy plant (Papaver somniferum) The prefix to somniferum is somni which means sleepy. After the opium poppy is planted it grows into a long stalk. Eventually flowers form at the top of the stalk and open with a little ball in the center with stamens (male parts containing pollen attached). This ball is the poppy pod, the flowers will fall off an all that will be left is a little pod on the end of the stalk. This pod will grow bigger and bigger until it is ready for harvesting. Most people leave the pod on the plant and score the surface to allow opium latex to drain out the sides where it is then collected and processed into opium or heroin. The latex contains two basic active opioids, Morphine and Codeine. Most of the poppy crop uses some chemical process to turn the opium latex into heroin where it is sold in other countries like the united states. I have no idea at the best way to do this or the actual process as I live in the United States and have never harvested poppies, or used heroin or opium, but this is generally how the plant grows. It is quite a beautiful plant, especially right before the petals fall off and it is just quite a beautiful red poppy plant.

In short, yes. With poppy seeds you can grow the opium poppy plant but, that will not give you opium right away. Once the plant has grown you must extract the opium from the poppy in order to have raw opium. Note: you must have special seeds and I'll leave it at that. It should be noted that while many governments may allow the growing of any poppies when done in a way that's obviously only ornamental, that any attempt to actually harvest opium, even a tiny amount, from poppies is a felony in the United States and many other countries.

Yes, the variety you need is papaver somniferum, which believe it or not, is the same poppy that grows from common poppy seeds used in cooking. I have grown opium poppies by simply sowing the seeds bought from the spice section of the grocery store. Growing these is legal, however as soon as you cut the seed pod to extract the latex, you are a felon. Enjoy your garden, just sprinkle the seeds on the soil, very thin layer of soil to cover, after the plant flowers and the petals fall off, the seed pod will start to swell, maybe a week after flowering shallow cuts in the pod will yield white latex which dries to a brownish black tar. Where does heroin grow?
Heroin does not grow. It is a chemical derived from morphine, which itself is derived from opium. Opium is derived from poppy flowers and the poppies grow in mountainous regions on very poor dry soils in places like Afghanistan,Pakistan and China. The poppies survive drought when other food crops fail. The poppy seed heads are cut with a knife and the white sap oozes out and dries to a brown hard resin. This is hand picked and refined as above.

opium is a latex mixture of alkaloids such as morphine, codeine and thebaine just to name a few. opium is therefore a mixture and when you take opium these drugs are metabolised into compounds such morphine. This means that if they gave you a blood test they would find morphine and other things on the same lines of that but not opium as opium is a mixture of drugs not an actual individual drug
