How much sand do you need in a bearded dragon cage?

If you are going to use sand make sure it is calcium sand or clean play sand, you don't need much 1-2 inches is fine. Their is a lot of debate on this out there as beardies have been known to swallow the sand and impact themselves (not be able to go to the bathroom) and die. If you want to avoid this possibility use a solid substrate such as Repti carpet or ceramic tile

Is sand good for a bearded dragon habitat or is it just optional?

NEVER use sand in your bearded dragon's tank Sand is the worst thing you can use, beardies are like human babies, everything goes into their mouths. When sand is ingested by your beardie it clumps in their stomachs and causes what we call impaction, which means they can't go to the bathroom. In turn this leads to internal bleeding and will kill your beardie.

What color sand do bearded dragons prefer?

NO SAND!!!! I have one ATM. His name is DotA. Get him a carpet, and Bearded Dragons are Desert Reptiles, So red sand? Duh. Or orange/ normal sand. But you need to take note of. When they eat, bearded dragons also use the bathroom in the sand, and when they eat, they catch crickets, and then the crickets can get attached to the feces that is on the sand or left over from what you picked up and they can ingest it and that can cause serious health problems...

What is the best flooring for a bearded dragon that is almost 1?

The best flooring or substrate as it's called that I have found is ceramic tiles. You can get them in colours that look natural, their easy to clean, keep the heat longer and file your beardies claws all at the same time. Other things you can use are newspaper, shelf liner, reptile carpet and paper towel. DO NOT use sand on any beardie!!! Sand is very dangerous and the main reason a beardie only lives an average of 3 years in the wild. They are like babies and put everything in their mouths, when they swallow the sand they become impacted, meaning they can't use the wash room. This in turn leads to internal bleeding and will kill a beardie.
