If the manufacture recommends the use of an Xw40 viscosity grade it should be fine. The same if an Xw30 viscosity grade is recommended but the engine is well worn. Consider also the quality certifications as well as the viscosity grade before choosing to use the oil in this application.

You can but it is meant to be introduced early mileage to extend longevity. On a 07 your miles are probably on the high side for 1st time use. If you are sure it is synth now, stick to it, if not and you are above 80k miles use dino recommended viscosity. If you are over 100k you might consider going slightly thicker in viscosity based on comp test results. For example if you have evidence of wear going to straight 30w vs recommended 10-40 will help promote sealing.
