They wore one on their LEFT sleeve. The SS were the political police and were the ones who wore black uniforms. Before the war, the SA were the police. They wore brown shirts and the small hat (similiar to a kepi) and were called the "Brown shirts". They were replaced by the SS.

How did the soldiers look like?

Answerhmmm, i have a friend from Italy that actually registered for the new facist party in Italy, and all i know of their uniform is alot of black AnswerIn 1933, the Italian army improved its uniforms and got rid of the stiff collars that were common in WW1. The Model 1933 uniform was a grey and the tunic had four pockets on front. The officer rank was on epaulets but soon was moved to the cuffs of the sleeves. On the collar was a colored square patch that identified the division. It was mounted on a "flame" or triangle that identified the branch of service. Unlike most countries, YELLOW color was for artillery and the Red was for tank corps or cavalry. The officer's uniforms were similar but made of a fine gabardine material. The kepi hat was replaced with the Visor cap and the "Bustina". The Bustina was unique to the Italian army and it was a folding hat similar to the US overseas cap but with a strap over the top and a bill that was usually folded up.The Fascists units called "Black Shirts" wore a black shirt and tie. The Air Force uniform was a shade of blue. In battle, the Italians wore the grey uniform. In the desert war, they wore a tan uniform and shorts. Some wore a special shirt with a unique design called a "Sahariana".There were two specialized troops in the Italian Army(besides the Black Shirts). The Alpini (Mountain) troops were trained for mountain warfare and they were distinguished by a soft hat with a crow's feather(reminds one of Robin Hood). The Bersaglieri were elite corp of sharpshooters/light infantry, distinguished by a bundle of black rooster feathers worn on helmets(or also worn on Tropical pith helmets or on their round, black hat with flat brim).Italy had a specialized Marine Infantry unit, known as "X-mas(pronounced Deci-mas, short for 10th Flotilla Unit). They wore a camoflaged version of the collarless tunic and commonly wore a rolled-neck sweater under it.The Italian paratroopers wore a camoflaged pull-over smock and over this they might wear a vest that held machine gun clips horizontally across the front and back---commonly referred to as the "samurai vest".The regular army was issued a camoflaged poncho that could be used as a tent.Custermen

How long has the u.s. army calvalry stetson been used?

The "Hollywood" cavalry "Stetson" hat was never officially an army issue hat, until the end of the 19th century...with the 1898 Spanish-American War; and that was for tropical use in Cuba and the Philippines. The US Army "Kepi" (like a baseball cap...with short bill in front; commonly known as a Civil War cap/hat) was the official US Army hat for field use. Wide brimmed stetson's were authorized for local wear on the western frontiers when obtained by the Cavalrymen themselves. The "Drill Sergeant Hat", also called the "Smokey the Bear Hat" which is still worn by US Border Patrolmen at checkpoints and US Park Rangers, etc. As well as some state's Highway Patrol, etc. Were OFFICIALLY US Army "Campaign Hats" issued to US Army personnel in 1900 up until WW2. US Army troops patrolled the US National Parks and the US-Mexican Border until about 1927; at which time they turned over those duties to the civilian law enforcement agencies...US Border Patrol and National Park Service. Which is why today those two agencies wear an Army looking green uniform and former US Army Campaign Hats (Smokey the Bear Hats)...a passive reminder of who used to perform those duties; the US Army.
