Sure. You can wear anything you want. The question is whether or not it is a good idea to do so. The professional usually doesn't wear anything, except perhaps a smooth band with no stones or embellishments. Other rings, particularly those with one or more sets, are an invitation to problems. A smooth band will be less likely to "pick up" something when you work and to "hold" something on it when you wash between activities. The more you use your hands in your work, the more you should consider removing your rings. We've all seen Paula Dean and some other folks wearing all kinds of crap on their hands when they cook for us on TV. What nonsense. Next time you're inside a hospital, look for the posters about hand washing. And you'll be able to spot the infection control nurse. He or she will look tired and have hair that sticks out in all directions because the bulk of the vectors for infection transmission are attached to the arms of the people who work there - they're called hands. The staffers as a group just don't wash well enough. Imagine how much things slip in the kitchen! Professional food preparation workers at all levels are generally encouraged to avoid rings. Some places ban them outright. If you're mixing frozen juice and water and ice, you may not wish to remove the rings. How about when you make meatloaf? Let's nip this in the bud and go for clean instead of the "convenience" of leaving the rings on. Please.
