Under medical privacy law, your employer can call your doctor and tell him pretty much anything. Your doctor, however, cannot give your employer much if any information at all, including whether or not you're even a patient. Under labor law, this varies from state to state. I'll flag this question for more details, but you may want to consult a labor attorney. Personally, I'd say your employer's actions are unethical if not illegal.

Every state has a department of labor and a workforce agency that helps people get jobs, apply for unemployment, and can answer questions about a host of legal and ethical aspects of employment. Look up your city's branch in the city pages of the phone book, tell them about your situation, and ask for the phone number of the appropriate office. They can give you the legal information you need, and can intercede for you with your employer if he is treating you in an illegal manner. A more likely (and legal) scenario would be that your employer requires you to see their doctor to determine your fitness for the job you are doing. If that doctor determines that you need restrictions, the employer may insist on those restrictions unless your own doctor is willing to go to bat for you. The restrictions may not mean you can't work, though, so don't be too worried about it. It is because they are so afraid of being responsible for something going wrong with your pregnancy.

Would you take a job as a security officer?

I wouldn't be interested in a job as a security officer because it often involves working nights. Also, depending on what you are guarding, it could be a dangerous job. I suppose the pay is good, but not good enough for me to consider a career in security.

Is a correctional officer considered a peace officer?

Under Florida Law no. A licensed armed security officer is not a peace officer. In the State of Florida you do not have to be sworn to have peace officer status. According to Florida Statutes 843.08 and 843.06 the word "watchman" appears in both statutes. A security officer was once called a watchman. Therefore, a licensed security officer in Florida is a non sworn peace officer.
