The liquid in a car type battery is an acid that is pretty much freeze-proof under normal temperature ranges seen in most climates, as long as the battery is FULLY CHARGED. However, if the battery is discharged or in a low charge state, the electrolyte can freeze. A hard freeze will damage a battery and drastically reduce its capability to hold a charge.
