Some starters required a shim or spacer that may still be attached to the old starter. Or if the spacer was stuck to the engine and the new starter had its own, you may have installed two spacers instead of one by mistake. Another possibility is that the wiring connections on the starter solenoid are incorrect.

You should hope so. The other option is a damaged flywheel which is a much larger project than replacing a starter.
When the starter motor refuses to turn over or grinds and clicks when turning then you need a new motor or recondition the old one.
sounds like you forgot to put the correct shims in when starter was installed
A vehicle's starter will being making a loud screeching noise if it does not align properly with the flywheel. It slams against the flywheel and grinds against the surface.
could be bad bushings in the starter.
You might have a bad flywheel.
If it is the starter that is grinding then the teeth may have been ground off. Either a new starter or flywheel is in order.
there are 23 skating grinds
It means you need to 1)Check your charging system and battery condition, if OK then 2)voltage drop from battery to starter, if OK then 3)you need a new starter and make sure to check the ring gear for damage when the starter is removed.
Hi You need to shim outside bolt on starter, go to parts store and get starter shims. Might have to shim till it sounds right. The teeth on starter have to mesh in center of fly wheel or close.
It's probably the little gear called the "bendix". It will be easier to just replace the starter, but you CAN purchase the gear separately if you want. When you remove the starter, check the ring gear on the flywheel. If it's stripped you just got a much more expensive repair.
