It's in behind the center console, near the firewall. If you remove (completely swing down) the glove box you can see the wiring plug needed to get to it.

yes it does and it is located by the battery and if it is blown you may need an ac compressor they have a problem with locking up

there was a recall to replace AC hoses on some XL-7 because they would corrode. I had them replaced on my 2006 under warranty. That could be it. Could also be a bad AC clutch, a blown fuse preventing the AC clutch from engaging, or a bad switch on the dashboard. Perhaps the AC system lines have opened up somewhere. There are a lot of possibilities.
