Phileō is closer in meaning to kindness, affection or liking and agapē is love that is much deeper than that, it is used to describe God's love that prompted Him to give "only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) Charity is an outdated English word that caries a completely different meaning in modern English than it did in 1611. So when you see charity in the Bible, you can just read "love".
