The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to AutoZone or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.
I know this sounds surprising, had an issue with the Opel Corsa C equivalent, a 2002 Holden Barina SRi. The emission light came on after a stall and stayed on. It was just after a re-fill of the petrol tank. I turned off the engine, removed the petrol cap and re-sealed it and the light went off and has stayed off. Hope this helps.

Both are correct, depending on the situation. I stayed in my house. I stayed in a hotel. I stayed at the door. I stayed at the starting-line. I stayed at the beach for the weekend. I stayed at my friend's house.
The 1929 song Puttin' On The Ritz, which has stayed popular from various versions produced over the years, was originally published and written by Irving Berlin and performed by Harry Richman.
The correct spelling is stayed.
In 1976 Ford had to modify their emissions to fit the new standards that the Government was passing. The way they did this was by just adding a belt to the engine that would turn a motor that would feed air into the exhaust system, this would increase the amount of clean air being pushed out of the exhaust while keeping the same amount of emissions being pushed out. What this all means is this, the emissions stayed the same, while the amount of air being pumped in increased. So, all they were doing was diluting the emissions, they were "masking" them. A lot of people cut off this belt because it affected performance of the 1976 Fords. So if this belt is removed you can replace it easily, or if this belt isn't removed, there could be a problem with the device that masks the emissions. It should be the belt closest to the front of the car. And it should (should, not sure on your car) run up and to the right to a little device with a black tube running out of it. Check all of this out and post your findings so I can help you more.
