Set by dwell 28-32 degrees (approx. .017)
to my knowledge 1980 Chevy v8 engines didn't have ignition points, and dwell settings are for points.
.016 to.018 per set or 30 degrees dwell. Each set will have to be set seperately from the other.
The truck did not come with a points style distributor. Someone installed the points type in the truck after it left the factory. The setting for all mopar V8's with points is .014-.018 thousands. I have found that they run best at .016
well almost 50'00 points are there fat
with a spark plug #5224 the gap setting is .040
2
6 degrees BTDC.
Have you checked your points and condensor?
I'm pretty sure that all General Motors V8 engines use the same dwell setting. Most likely you have a distributor with the little pull up door and points with the Allen screw adjuster. The setting is 28 - 32 degrees dwell so just set it as close to 30 degrees dwell as you can.
