Most processed foods now days (Including fast foods) has way more sugar than we need, and it is the sugar which is now known to be the main cause for the "big five" diseases affecting health the world over. One of these "big five" is obesity.
So yes, Fast food plays a part in child obesity, but it is a bigger problem than just fast food. Sweetened drinks are probably more of a problem that fast foods.
