Virginia Slims. This slogan was introduced in 1969 and ran on television until January 2, 1971 when cigarette advertising was banned from television.
Legislation banning cigarette ads on television (and on radio too) was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in early April 1970. (It should be noted that as time passed, many dramatic and comedy programs got around the ban by showing the characters smoking a cigarette. But the era of a news reporter smoking on camera was over.)
