Sometimes it can be as simple as a fuse. Or the female portion of the lighter that is in the dash, went bad/corroded and needs replacement. And other times, the cig lighter is on a circuit with other accessories like the radio or dome lights or electric locks etc. You'd need to find out, by the owner's manual, what else is on that circuit and check to see if those are working also. The fuse is called the 'Dome' fuse and usuall it's in a block of fuses under a black plastic cover next to the battery.
