Analog IS a continuous signal.
It provides information transmission by being changed from it's steady-state by the "overlaid" voltage "interferance" of the data "signal".
Think of the surface of a lake as a steady state signal (like a pure 12volts from a battery). Now add the change of a boat that someone is jumping up and down in (the data). The data signal "rides" the surface of the lake water/steady state and is "transmitted" that way.
So, again, the lake surface is the steady state (the water level is above the "ground level" of the lakebed) but the data rides on top in the form of a changing level that goes higher and/or lower than the steady state (again, above the "ground"). Simple, yes?
For all intents and purposes, Digital signals switch rapidly between off and on (and are therefore not continuous by definition) and the pattern of on/not-on contains the data.
