For black powder revolvers in general- black powder residue is cleaned with soap and water. Most ball and cap revolvers have a barrel held in place by a wedge. Remove the wedge, separate the barrel from the frame, and slide cylinder off the cylinder pin. Wash parts in HOT water (I use Dawn dish detergent, but others will work) Scrub parts with an old toothbrush, use a bore brush for the barrel, and the charge holes of the cylinder. Rinse in HOT clean water, shake water off parts, let air dry (they will be hot and dry quickly) Wipe with a light coat of oil, including interior of cylinder, and of barrel. Apply light coat of grease to cylinder pin, replace cylinder, barrel, and wedge.
