As you pull the trigger.

I have a 12 gauge shotgun with the numbers 4041 on it. It has a double barrel and double trigger and hammerless. Could someone tell me what year it was made?
The value of a Savage shot barrel 12 gauge single trigger shotgun depends on its condition. This gun in excellent condition is valued between 450.00 and 550.00 as of 2014.
Look at the back of the breech. If there isn't a hammer, it's hammerless. Hammers are those things that stick up at the back of the barrel. On a single action gun you have to cock them (pull them back) before you pull the trigger. Pulling the trigger cocks and releases the hammers on a double action. All the firing mechanism is inside a hammerless gun.

I recently bought one from my uncle for $80. in excellent condition with two mags, trigger lock, and holster.
The safety has always been in the trigger guard of the A5. Early guns had a front-to-rear safety in the front of the trigger guard. Yours should have the later style crossbolt safety behind the trigger. Plain barrel Sweet Sixteens in excellent condition will bring $1000. They drop off fast as they get toward 80% condition. In 'VG' condition, $650.
The value of ANY gun is based on the exact make, model, and condition. The Baby Hammerless was not a derringer, but a very tiny revolver with a folding trigger. The value of those revolvers runs about $200 for a working specimen in fair condition. Do NOT attempt to fire this with modern high speed 22 Shorts- it was made for black powder cartridges. Better condition can equal higher prices.
Assuming you have an Auto-5, anywhere from $400-$1500. Have it properly identified and evaluated.
