Union Major General Oliver Otis Howard participated in the following battles and campaigns during the Civil War: Battle of First Bull Run as commander of an infantry brigade of the 3rd Division; Peninsular Campaign as commander of an infantry brigade. At the Battle of Fair Oaks he lost his right arm when leading his unit against the Confederates, an action which earned him the Medal of Honor. Battle of Chancellorsville as commander of the XI Corps; Battle of Gettysburg as commander of the XI Corps; Atlanta Campaign as commander of the IV Corps. After the Death of General McPherson, Sherman appointed him commander of the Army of the Cumberland. March to the Sea, as commander of the Army of the Cumberland. Note: at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg his Corps suffered two humiliating defeats, but during his activity in the Western Front he recovered from those setbacks as a successful corps and army commander.
Joe Hooker was the commander of the Union first corps (I Corps) at the battle of Antietam. He would later be elevated to commander of the Union Army of the Potomac. He served in that capacity from January 1863 through June 1863. He would command this army at the Battle of Chancellorsville, a Union defeat, and was removed from command just prior to the Battle of Gettysburg.
Grant (Union) after a bad reverse on the first day when he was taken off-guard. The Confederate commander, Sidney Johnston, was killed in this battle.
West point graduate George G. Meade fought at the Battle of Antietam. He was a brigadier general under the command of Corps commander Joseph Hooker. Meade led the Third Division of Hooker's First Corps.
Ibrahim Lodi was killed in the First Battle of Panipat.
Yes Major General Abner Doubleday was in the fight at Gettysburg. He commanded a Division of John F. Reynolds' I Corps and for a time commanded that corps after Reynolds was killed on the first day. On the second day he was relieved of the corps command and returned to the command of his 3rd division.

The confederates won the first battle and the fort, no one was killed on the confederate side and the commander of the fort was wounded along with 19 of his troops, 9 died and 105 were taken prisoners. This began the war.
