Not too much, really. Regular oil changes help a lot. Older pre-1987 versions required frequent valve cover gasket replacement. If using more than 12-1 compression, pay attention to the quality of your head gaskets. No such thing as too good.

Substituting a high volume oil pump and a deeper oil pan can be helpful for heavy duty applications.
