The people of the New England colonies, for the most part, came to America so they could practice their chosen religion freely. The Southern settlers usually came to America for a business opportunity or for an entrepreneurial purpose. While both colonies had slavery at one time, it was much more common in the south than the north. The southern colonies tended to have large farms or plantations, while those in the New England colonies tended to be small. The southern colonies tended to be predominantly members of the Anglican church, while the religions in the New England colonies were more diverse.

The sothern colonies made thier income with cash crop like tobacco, rice, and indigo. there was more agriculture in the south and was mostly run by slaves and the northern colonies has smaller family run farms.

You could do a paragraph or two on Jamestown explaining why they came to Virginia and what happened. Then, move to Plymouth and explore how their colony was set up and why. Then, compare the two, and finally contrast them. I would end the essay with a summary putting it all together. A good opening line for your essay is " the purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast Jamestown and Plymouth " you can use this line with just about anything you write and it will help focus your thinking for your essay.
