The question needs more information like what its doing and the year, make and model would help as well..................
Where is the short at? What is malfunctioning?
You will have to find the short in the wiring affecting the particular circuit. For example if you have a short on the A/c fuse, you would want to start from the compressor clutch and work toward the fuse box. You might be able to get away with putting a circuit breaker in the circuit with the bad fuse, but that is not the best way to repair the truck
You ether have an electrical short and the c/a clutch is not kicking in or you need an expantion valve The orifice TUBE (sometimes come with the hose) probably is blocked. Is usally the problem on thoes cars.
Replace the lighter housing. If that does not fix it, look for a short in the wiring.
Assuming the heater works fine, you have a short, probably in the AC compressor clutch.
Generally one of two things will cause headlights to dim; a power drain somewhere else (A/C compressor clutch, etc.) or a bad electrical connection. If the dash lights dim at the same time, it's most likely an electrical draw or short circuit. Don't automatically dismiss the A/C clutch because the A/C isn't on; some vehicles also run the A/C in defrost mode to dry the air.
The most likely reason the compressor is not coming on is because you are low on freon. The low pressure switch will keep the compressor from cycling on because damage to your compressor would result. You can jumper across the low presure switch with the engine running and A/C turned on, ( for short time only) this will provide you with question is my compressor clutch good, or am I just low on freon. The AC compressor relay switch may need to be replaced
your air conditioner does not have a fan. you have a cooling fan, a blower motor for the passenger compartment, and a compressor clutch. i don't know which one your talking about. but if it is the electric fan for the cooling system behind the radiator then there is either an overheating issues, or a short causing the fan actuate. if it is a blower motor for the air vents. more than likely the blower motor or resistor is going bad. if it is the compressor clutch "fast cycling" then you are low on refrigerant and probably on your way to a really expensive repair. Redoing an AC system is trick business, the system must first be evacuated by a vacuum pump to remove all air before the refrigerant can go in and the pressure switch will not allow the compressor to come on or it will short cycle. Assuming you did it all properly try disconnecting the wire to the compressor and jumping it to 12 volts, that will activate the clutch. If it comes on and blows cold then the switch inside the car might be bad or some other electrical issue such as relay or fuse is the problem.
You have either a short to ground or short to power somewhere. You can either trace the harness wiring and repair it, or replace the harness outright.
Apparently you can. I'm in the process of doing this now on a 1997 sl2. The belt route diagram shows both routes. I believe you will lose the air dryer with the defrost setting but for a short term solution the cars back on the road. I also unplugged the clutch assemblyon the compressor. The new A/C clutch assembly is $142 and has to be ordered. I only found one parts store that will order it for me.
You can try to track the problem by inspecting the wires using a test meter or take it to a repair shop for diagnostic test.
