1) There is a plastic reservoir where you fill with coolant, that sometimes will have a crack at the bottom, or the hose coming from the reservoir. It also holds water for your wiper washer fluids.
2) Radiator core is leaking and will move down the frame of vehicle.
3) Driver side head gasket leak.
The 1997 Ford Explorer ambient temperature sensor can be found on the bottom of the drivers side mirror. The engine coolant temperature sensor can be found on the front of the engine.
