1.Water is collected at a certain height in huge reservoirs. 2.This water, which has lot of potential energy 3.The energy of falling water is used for generating electricity in hydro-electric power stations 4.In hydro-electric power plants turbines are used to convert the energy of falling water into mechanical energy 5.Hydro-electric power plants have least operating cost 6.They are free from environmental problem
£9000 in the ukA lotThe price of Hydro Power depends if your referring to the cost of it being built or the cost of running it. It also depends on the size of the Hydro plant. Construction of Hydro Plants are generally VERY expensive but once they have been built the are quite cheap to run.
The average cost of building a hydro power plant on the Columbia river is 559,220,000.

Hydro power depends on suitable water sources and terrain where you can build a dam to obtain the necessary head of water, so it can't be built anywhere, whereas a nuclear plant can be sited in most areas apart from earthquake zones, provided there is a supply of cooling water. So hydro is more limited in application, but I guess if there are the right conditions for building it, this will be the most economical in the long run, and there are no pollution worries. Nuclear plants should be compared with fossil fuel plants rather than hydro, as the choice is then more valid.

The cost to dismantle a hydro electric power plant, including the removal of pen stocks and return of foot print area to pristine condition is about 20 million per installed megawatt today.
In general, hydroelectric power generation is much cheaper than plants using fossil fuels. In the second attached link, it is stated that the average operating cost for a hydroelectric plant is around six cents per kilowatt while an fossil fuel power plants operating cost average is above 2 cents per kilowatt.
to help pay for line maintenance, employees, and cost of fuel.
Advantages 1).Fuel used is cheaper. 2).Smaller space is required to hydro power plant. 3).Economical in initial cost compared to hydro plants. 4).Thermal plants can be placed near load centres unlike hydro and nuclear plants. 5).plants can withstand for certain extent. Disadvantages 1).requires higher maintenance and operational costs. 2).pollution of atmosphere. 3).huge requirement of water. 4).Handling of coal and disposal of ash is quite difficult. 5).Efficiency of thermal plant is less (30-35%).
Levelized cost of kwh from a nuclear power plant is cheaper than from any fossil fueled power plants.
