the only damage you will have to the Power Steering pump its self .it will not mess up any other function of your motor
The obvious: It will become very hard to steer. The not so obvious: The power steering pump is lubricated with power steering fluid, and driving it dry could damage the pump.
Just normal 4x4 driving won't damage anything. If you drive for a long distance with the diff lock on though you could damage tyres and at high speed could be dangerous,
Check your power steering fluid or your fan belt could be making noise.

Synthetic power steering fluid from the dealer only. Do NOT mix drugstore power steering fluid, ATF, or non-synthetic fluid in your steering system. Damage to the seals/gaskets could result in leaks.
you need to locate the leak.
If it happens when you are driving fast (60-70 MPH) it could be that your wheels are out of alignment.
It could be the shocks/struts or something in the steering system...have it checked out.
