Could a Winchester 62 NOT Model 62A have a large forearm and serial 180xxx?

The larger forends were standard by approximately serial 146000. Yours is supposed to have the longer forend. However, the change to the new/old-style bolt (three visible pins) was accomplished by serial 98000 when the change to the 62A designation was made. Your slide handle should have seventeen grooves and should measure 8 1/4" in length, with a flat bottom. The barrel marking denoting 'Model 62 A' did not appear until approx serial number 225,000. So.... if your gun has the three-pin breechbolt it is actually a 62A, even though the new rolldies were not used until about 2 years later. sales@countrygunsmith.net
