Yes.
You could take off a rocker and try to push down on the pushrod. You'd be able to feel the spring in a hydraulic lifter, but not on a solid lifter.
Could be a broken lifter or something along those lines. Will need to pull valve cover and visually inspect.
Probably a bad camshaft.
Not that familiar with Jeeps, but you could have a collapsed lifter, or you might have a rocker arm out of adjustment.
There could be several reasons why you have a noisy hydraulic valve lifter. One reason could be worn our parts in the entire valve train. A loose rocker arm could also cause noise.
could be a loose lifter or sticky lifter, loose or sinking valve, or a rocker arm, and it could even be a spark plug jumping a ground to the engine, i need more info, like, does it only do it at idle, or does it get faster when you rev it, or does it do it all of the time, is it just completely random? email me at Systemat1c@live.com
sounds like you have a loose rocker arm NEW ANSWER: A exhaust manifold gasket leaking will sound like a lifter also.
If it is a Tapping sound it is normally a lifter. Could also be a cam, pushrod, and or a rocker arm. Tapping is normally upper motor. If it is a knocking noise it is normally in the lower motor. If the noise gets louder when warm most likely a lifter is going bad. As the oil heats it thins slightly causing more oil to bypass inside the lifter which it is not supposed to do
no
The Doctor has a sister that is a World Champion weight lifter.
