Best Answer

Simply put,

yes.

The sun is just a star, like any other star. Our sun is approximately halfway through it's life cycle right now, we can tell this by the chemical composition as revealed by spectrophotoscopy (goodness I don't think I spelled that right), and is approx. I think it was 5.1 billion years old. So approx. 5 and a half billion years from now, the sun will supernova and burn out.

Human existence, and potentially intelligent existence on earth may have already ceased to exist merely by principles already understood under how long a species can essentially dominate the planet before it is essentially wiped out by whatever limiting forces act upon it.

Yes the sun will burn out, but don't fret about it.

It will enter a supergiant phase, engulf Mercury, mars, and earth, let off a massive planetary nebula, then sizzle out and become a white dwarf

Probably not. Eventually it will, but that won't be in your lifetime, your kids lifetime, their kids lifetime, their kids lifetime, and so on. So again, probably not...

Will the sun and if so how and when?

Will the sun explode? No. Will it burn out? Yes. It will gradually expand into a red giant, in about 4 billion years, then collapse to a bright hot white dwarf star, where it will burn another few billion years, gradually fading to black.

How many years from now do scientist believe the sun will burn out and explode?

Somewhere from 4-5 billion, but they don't think it will actually explode; it will swell up, and then shrink back down, but this is not an explosive process.
