You can't, it is not adjustable, The timing is controled by the computer and there is no reason to mess with the timing. Now if you Have had the distributor out and put it back in and the engine will run and it has no check engine light on then you got lucky. Now if the light is on then you will have to get an OBD2 engine scanner and then go into the timing mode and move the distributor until you get cam and crank in time and the check engine light will go off. Tighten distributor and the computer will do the rest.

That year did not have a timing belt. It has a timing chain and gears. If the timing chain broke then yes . It will just quit running and will not start. You need to check the fuel pressure FIRST and then make sure the engine is firing next. I don't think the timing chain went out. it is not a common problem with that year. It would help if WE new the engine size too. I would check things out real close before putting a timing chain in it. There is a lot of things that could just shut the engine off with out the check engine light coming on.
