On whatever issue is up on appeal.

For example, if I have a trial and hearsay evidence is admitted, and I think that this was a legal mistake, and I lose, I can appeal and argue that the improper admission of this evidence caused me to lose, and the case should be reversed and I should be given a new trial, without that evidence. The court would then consider my legal argument that the evidence should not be admitted, along with the other side's argument that it should, in light of the relevant law.

What does it mean to focus?

Focus means to pay attention. A focus group is one who pays extreme attention to one particular aspect of a problem. Interest in the particular area will help to direct your attention. As an example, I am focusing on the questions onsite to find one that interests me. When you are attentive to an area, you are focusing on it. Providing answers is my area of expertise and I focus on providing an excellent answer. In most cases, one either provides knowledge or one is seeking a specific answer in the problem area. In either case, one is paying extreme attention to a stated problem. If you are having issues with an area, you are focusing on it. If you are an expert, you want to apply your knowledge to provide correct information. While the word is over used, the concept is the same...to provide attention to something that is important to you.
