Start by looking at the fuse: The fuse box, which can be located using your owners manual, should have a diagram for which fuse opporates which device. Pull the correct one out and see if it's blown. If it is than replace it with the exact type and amp rating. It still doesn't work than check the fuse again and if it's blown again than there is an electrical problem that should be checked out. Another thing, if the fuse is fine, than the cruise control device under the hood might be faulty.

I have a 19' Crestline with a Mercury 50 ELPTO that has a 12X101/2 Turningpoint prop. Max speed with (2) aboard is 23 MPH by GPS @ 5600 RPM in ideal conditions. I crusie at 4000 RPM at about 13.5 MPH burning 2.5 gallons per hour. Max speed drops to 20 MPH with (5) aboard and will crusie at 12.5 MPH at 4000.

The first step is to check the computers for codes with a scan tool. Different parts of the cruise system are handled by different computers.
It is located on the left side of the engine compatment on the fender next to the crusie control. It is a plastic cover that pops off and there is the fuse.
Because if you have the crusie control on and you are going up a steep hill it will do anything it can to keep that speed.
