Bluejackets refer to the sailors in the US Navy. The name comes from the blue wool coats that are part of the cold weather uniform. The Bluejackets Manual is still published and is full of good information for a sailor.

Bluejackets and Marines occupied Monterey, Alta California on 7 July 1846, and on 13 August 1846, Marnes occupied the Pueblo of Los Angeles but withdrew on 30 September to their ship at San Pedro. The amphibious landings at Veracruz and Naval gunfire support in the Siege were also a major US Navy contribution to the Mexican American War.
