Refractive index is a physicsâ?? measurement used to figure out the bend length a ray of light takes when passing through objects.
The refractive index of a material substance is: (speed of light in vacuum) divided by (speed of light in that substance)
why did you observe with indices of refraction of the colors of light in the acrylic prism
Reflection is where the light hits the surface and `bounces` back off the surface, while refraction is where the light enters the medium and changes direction according to the refractive index of the medium. The higher the refractive index, the more the light is refracted.
It is the Cell Theory.
It depends on the material. The speed of light in a vacuum is c = 299,792,458 m/s. Any other material will cause the light to slow down and can be calculated from the material's refractive index. So, for instance, quartz has an index of refraction, n = 1.45. The speed of light in a quartz optical fibres will be: v = c/n = 206,753,419 m/s. The propagation speed of a fibre is usually given in terms of a percentage: V = 100 x c/n. For the quartz fibre, the propagation speed in 69% of c. Optical fibres use the property of refraction to keep the light 'inside' the fibre. Using an inner core fibre and an outer 'sheath' fibre with a lower refractive index, the light can be totally internally reflected within the fibre with no need for mirrored surfaces.

Refractive Index= Speed of Light in Vaccum / Speed of Light in the material
'Shine' is an observed, subjective judgement, and you are the judge. At least two characteristics are involved in gemstone shine: cut/ clarity of the stone and the innate refractive index of each. A flawless diamond of an excellent cut is impossible to match in terms of gemstone shine. Both emeralds and rubies are valued on colour, then on clarity or cut. Practically, diamond has a high refractive index 2.4 according to "Standard refractive index measurements taken at yellow doublet sodium D line, with a wavelength of 589 nanometres"1. Ruby measures 1.76 and emerald measures 1.57. You can compare gemstones and the refractive index of each, below. ________________ 1 Wikipedia: List of Refractive Indices
To find the refractive index of a glass block for a particular wavelength of light, shine a beam of light of that wavelength through a material for which the refractive index n1 is known onto the glass block such that the angle between the beam and the block's surface θ1 is between zero and 90 degrees. Measure the angle between the part of the beam that enters the block and the block's surface θ2 and use Snell's law:n2 = n1 cos(θ1) / cos(θ2).Note: Typically Snell's law is expressed in terms of the angle between the beam and the direction normal to the interface and there for sines are used instead of cosines, but the use of cosines allowed the question to be answered without assuming knowledge of the concept "normal" to the interface.

"Defined items" are defined in terms of "undefined terms".
why did you observe with indices of refraction of the colors of light in the acrylic prism
are you asking for help on finding definition for geometric terms? if so go to: http://library.thinkquest.org/2647/geometry/glossary.htm#b and to wikipedia for x and j terms
the three terms; point, line and plane can be defined although it is called the undefined terms still we know and we can define the meanings of that terms.. common sense? joke.
