Sea otters are Lutrinae (otters) which is a subfamily of the family mustelidae (which also includes weasels, polecats, badgers, etc.)

You can find more about otters here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otter

The most representative thing of otter is their fluffy appearence. It has more than 8,000 hair on it. The mother gives birth to a pup once a year to a sea otter. Being clean and avoid pollution is very important because of the balance of their body temperature. If a sea otter is soaked with oil (e.g. fossil fuels), they cannot use their fur to keep them warm and they would suffer and die of cold. Their main food comes from the sea bed and they mainly eat marine invertebrates and some kinds of fishes.

They are now endangered because of mainly over-hunting on them and their preys; and the pollution of the sea. People use their furry skin to make goods such as handbags, and their preys such as urchins, are hunted for sushi and sashimi.
