Convection pushes tectonic plates around through the rise and sinking of heated liquid. Convection currents occur in the asthenosphere, and these currents contribute to the moving plates which are located just above.

Convection cells are lava underneath the surface of the earth that moves in a circular motion! When the lava gets closer to the centre of the earth, because heat rises, it goes upwards in a circular motion. Then it's further away from the heat so it cools down, and cool air sinks, so it goes down! The process is completed and this is called a convection cell this repeats everyday under the surface!

convection helps move the plates in the direction they already are. at the mid ocean ridge where the plate starts its movement the heat source rises underneath than moves in the direction with the plate helping it move along eventually the material cools and begins to descend which can occur where the plate subduction is happening the drag from the subduction in addition to the plates weight and the convection currents downward direction to help drag/pull the plate back down.

What makes tectonic plates?

convection currents :)

Which layer of the earth contains convection currents that move the tectonic plates?

The upper mantle contains convection currents that move the tectonic plates.

Movement of plates on earth's suface?

Constant. The tectonic plates of the earth are floating on the mantle, convection current cells cause them to slide around.

What is plates when there is an earthquake?

Tectonic plates influence earthquakes because of convection cells that move the plates around. When the plates collide, they cause a shockwave of energy released in the form of a earthquake.
