the city was still a small fishing village, especially the areas downtown or near the shores. there was trade between China and neighboring countries. cebu, according to some sources was rich with gold and other valuables then, so they bartered it with silk from china... cebu's name was still san Miguel, then became zubu, until the word became cebu. the place where magellan's cross now stands was once part of the shore, and i think clusters of natives built their houses around the perimeter. their houses were on stilts, made of wood and nipa.
