I guess he did, because he liked to learn and study about math, science and music, more appropriately nature and its phenomena, when he was a young boy, for which he had a great atmosphere in his family. Luckily, and importantly, a boy student Max Talmud brought him influential texts to read, which he really enjoyed. So it can easily be held that he had an happy childhood.

There is also a popular belief that he got poor grades, which is just opposite to reality. He was an excellent student, always among the top, just because he had already learnt what they were taught at school. One of his teachers told him once that he would never amount to anything in life, because he refused to study just for the sake of it, without a real inspiration. So you see there were things that he was unhappy about, like the way the students were taught at school, curiosity was not welcomed. But it would be unfair to deduce that he let these feelings overpower his enthusiasm and love for his way of studying, which he did not. He looked the brighter side.
