Nothing close to that was ever mentioned by Armstrong or any of the other 11 astronauts who walked on the moon. The only reference to Christmas was during Apollo 8 mission which orbited the moon on Christmas Day, 1968. When they went around the back of the moon for the first time, they needed to fire their engine to slow them down so they could remain in lunar orbit. That burn was made while the spacecraft was out of contact with the earth. When they finally came around the moon and achieved contact with earth. Jim Lovell announced the successful burn by saying "Please be informed, there is a Santa Claus.".

That's probably what you're referring to.
